SEVA-PRACTICING THE ART OF GIVING

seva

SEVA IS GIVING OF ONE’S TIME TO ANOTHER FOR AN EXCHANGE, THAT DOES NOT INCLUDE MONEY. SEVA IS A PRACTICE UNDERTAKEN BY PEOPLE ALL OVER THE WORLD. THE EXCHANGE IS A VOLUNTEER COMMITMENT TO SERVING ANOTHER ENTITY WHETHER HUMAN OR BUSINESS IN DEVELOPING THEIR ENERGY.

HOW CAN YOU PRACTICE SEVA?

Here are some shared experiences from our founder:

  • Prior to receiving a certification in Yoga, our founder travelled by bike daily to a local yoga studio. The studio offered a “buy a week get a month free” package. As a starving student with little money to spend she could not afford the minimal fee but she paid anyways. Spending hours a day during her week pass, the studio noted her commitment and offered her a position. The studio invited her to help with basic chores and in exchange she could practice for free. No monies passed between.

Seva comes from your heart.

What can you do to help this energy in front of you benefit.

  • It was during the middle of training and our founder took the opportunity to join in a festival in Joshua Tree, CA. She was to assist the woman in charge of all volunteers. She met some amazing and loving people and found true soul connections and in exchange was introduced to a form of yoga called breath.
  • Upon graduating with a certification in Hatha Yoga our founder began giving back to the community. She has continued doing so by offering classes with no charge and donating her time to a local studio that is connected with Kundalini yoga.

From all experiences it is important to practice seva from your heart and make sure you can commit to the time frame. Communication will help both parties succeed. Remain open and be honest. Choose to give from a place where you above all else LOVE WHAT YOU’RE DOING.
