Alex Levine Yoga connecting breath to movement via Hatha Vinyasa

For over seven years yoga has become an essential part of Alex’s life. His first experiences teaching yoga were as a student on Semester at Sea. Exploring and practicing through Ghana, South Africa, India, Cambodia, Vietnam, China and Japan, Alex led a Vinyasa flow at sunrise each day (talk about a sun salutation!)

To me, Power Yoga is about finding our edges (both in our mind and body) and using the breath to “stay and breathe” versus “flight or fight”. This is how we can grow everyday instead of getting stuck in life.

After returning and graduating with a bachelors in psychology, Alex decided to stay in New York for a year to learn how to teach yoga professionally. Alex enrolled in Yoga to the People’s 200-hour teacher training.  The training was a magical experience for Alex. He grew to appreciate what was happening, both anatomically and spiritually. During the year in New York Alex took calls on the Trevor Project’s LGBT-youth suicide lifeline and worked at Trader Joe’s. In 2011 Alex was accepted into Pacific University’s clinical psychology doctorate and moved to Portland, OR.  Alex will be returning to New York City in August 2015 to complete his pre-doctoral internship at Baruch College/CUNY Counseling Center making it possible to have clients in both Oregon and New York.

Alex Levine believes in the donation-based philosophy and that yoga should be available to all. The classes he teaches are inspired by hatha vinyasa and power yoga. He believes that breathing is one of the most powerful tools in yoga. He teaches with vinyasa’s emphasis on moving the body with the breath in addition to more advanced pranyama. He guides students through playful flows where newer yogis will feel safe to explore and where more experienced yogis will have opportunities to experiment and be challenged.

Whether you are looking to reduce stress and anxiety, increase strength and flexibility, or connect with your true nature and follow the yogic path, Alex Levine Yoga classes will give you an opportunity to set your personal intention, while flowing with a supportive community of fellow yogis.
